On december 23:rd IMG512 held an interactive event in our office showing some of our latest creations. Since it was almost Christmas we combined the event with the Zenitum Christmas party. It was joyous!

During the event we and our guests created music, noise, and audio patterns using our ‘Moving Cubes‘ and the ‘Laser Harp‘.

‘Moving Cubes‘ is an interaction concept where the users move a number of large cubes in a rooms. The cubes’ position, rotation, and relative position to each others generates unlimited variations of sound. Together we moved the cubes around and created everything from rather brutal noise to more harmonic beats, bass lines, and melodies. Mighty fun, especially while enjoying a glass of wine :) This thingy is using reacTIVision, in case you wonder what the funky shapes on top of the cubes are.

The ‘Laser Harp‘ differs from a conventional harp in that it has laser beams instead of strings. To play it you simply break the laser beams with your hands. Some earlier versions of this very instrument had laser beams so powerful that they burned the hands of the performers! We decided to make a little safer version with lasers that wouldn’t hurt us. After all we invited our dear friends... While preparing for the event we found that it was mighty fun to play the harp using rather strange or unusual sounds. It’s hard to describe in words what it sounded like. Come visit us and we’ll show you!

Our pride the, Koala was getting a lot of attention during the event. We were more than happy to demonstrate our Multi-Touch table and our BookSearch software to our dear guests and friends. BookSearch is an application that connects to Amazon.com and suggests related items.

Furthermore we had a guest concept from Korea University called ‘Fake Play‘. It’s a little like guitar hero, or any of the crazy Asian arcade games where you play a musical instrument. ‘Fake Play‘ is not really a game though, but it provides the experience of playing music without having to learn how to play first. Cool!
